Off setting the roof to the left or right of the door is also an option and would also change the overall appearance. For a smaller scale addition consider adding a roof or awning over the front door. If you re ready for a big exterior change a porch remodel can give your front entry a completely new look. A bracket portico or front door canopy is an excellent choice if there is a size restraint for the front stoop if you have a very limited budget or if this option is the best design for your house style.

Be careful not to get paint on the shingles or drip edge. A sloping roof above your front porch makes the ideal form for a dream house. Although simple in design it adds lots of appeal. A bracket portico can also be constructed in a day typically.

Let s add a flat roof which is normally the least expensive to build. A traditional portico usually takes 2 3 days. This helps keep rain or sun off visitors while they ring the bell and off you while you fish for your keys. We chose to paint most of ours the main house color with the exception of the face fascia trim around the front and above the roof that we painted our trim color.
